If you're talking about replacing the red release tab and the two narrow springs that hold it up then it can be easily done without breaking the tab if you're a bit careful. They pop straight out. I've needed to do it a couple of times.

Note on the replacement the end tabs sticking down are offset and have an end notch sticking out. You need to get a small blade or narrow screwdriver down between the latch housing and the red end tabs. The tabs can take a bit more prying than you might think, but not a lot, and you need to pry in at least 1/3rd the way down in the center of the tab, not prying near the top or the edge of the tab. Carefully pry one tab in a bit to try releasing the notch while also prying the whole tab up in the middle, trying to keep the tab under tension pulling up. You need to keep the tab semi-level to avoid one side lifting out and breaking the opposite tab. If needed, try alteranating ends being a bit more forceful each time until you're redy to to attemp a pull.

You're replacing the red tab so do the damaged one first and if it breaks, no big deal as long as you can get the broken pieces out. The replacement tab pushes straight back down, just pinching the ends in with you fingers. Make sure the springs stay aligned in their slots doing this.

Hope that helps. It's been a decade since I last had to do it and I'm pretty sure all I used was a smaller, longish slot screwdriver, but not so small that the shaft marks the latch with a dent.
