I have a 1989 with mint body and low mileage.About a year ago I spent about 1500 US to replace the compressor and hoses. On the hoses,be sure to replace the originals with high barrier hoses. The normal hoses that came with the car will leak the 234 that your car probably was converted to. Freon very expensive in USA. Since you don't know whether the compressor works or not, it would probably be wise to replace it as well as the hoses. If the body is mint and you can buy it for a reasonable price, the AC upgrade would be a plus. In my case, it was cheaper than a divorce!
