Michael,

Where do you live on the UP? One of my best friends used to live in Sault St. Marie.

If I were you I would re-post or search the archives for snow tire recommendations. I live in Pennsylvania and do not feel the need for snows. There is too much sacrifice in dry weather preformance (and I like to drive fast) considering the snowfall we get here.

Considering the extreme conditions you have up there, maybe a beater 4x4 would be the answer?
