General principles from an old hot rodder ALL 1989

The first thing to compare is the ratios, not only of leverage on the linkage arms, but also of the bore and stroke of the two cylinders. If the Chevy slave cylinder has about the same inner diameter and length of stroke as the Volvo master cylinder, then they should work, provided that you can adapt the hose and pipe connections, which is most easily done on the metal parts, not the flex parts. If the Chevy slave is substantially larger than the Volvo slave was, then you will gain effective leverage on the clutch pedal (it will be easier to push), but you may not have enough stroke. If the Chevy slave is substantially smaller than the Volvo slave was, you may find the pedal effort too much for comfort, or risk blowing the innards out of the slave cylinder if you don't put a stroke stop on the pedal.
