Evan reroutes the wires so they do not go through the hinge. I extended the wires at the connection points inside the tailgate, then pulled the harness up through the hinges until I could cut out the broken part, then reconnected them above the headliner. Lots of RTV around the hinges and where the wires go through the roof and tailgate to prevent leakage. Took and hour or so, but there are lots of places inside the tailgate to peel your fingers. Used a short stepladder to support the tailgate. Did one side at a time, so nothing came too badly adrift. 'twould truly suck to drop the tailgate on the ground...
