Don't Panic -- 3 and 4 are basically compatible 200 76

DOT 5 is NOT, however. DOT 4 offers a bit better temperature and moisture resistance than 3, and the latter is important to many types of ABS systems, but if you live in a dry climate on level terrain (North Dakota?), then you could get by well with DOT 3 until your next major brake service. If, however, you live in the Rockies or the humid Gulf Coast, you'll want to replace the 3 with 4 rather soon, although no extreme flushing and cleaning should be necessary, since they are compatible.
