Seems weird but I have now had two fuel pumps fail. In both cases they were new original type Bosch pumps with not more than a couple thousand miles on them. In the first case, I found there was rusty debris in the fuel tank which fouled the entire fuel system. At that point the fuel pump was working but the fuel couldnt get through the lines. The tank was relined and I cleaned every last inch of the fuel system and of course replaced the fuel fileter.....twice. However I did not change the pump. It failed shortly thereafter and I attributed it to rusty debris clogging up the pump interior. The replacement has now failed. (I am certain that the fuel system is clean because I have checked a couple of times by pulling the hose from the cold start valve and running a little fuel into a container.) I have electrical continuity to the fuel pump plug. My test lamp illuminates for 2 seconds when the key is put in run position and lights continuously when the engine cranks. I have also run wire directly from the battery to the pump, bypassing the relays. Pump doesnt run. So, I conclude that the pump has failed. Can anyone think of anything which might be stressing the pump causing premature failure. I am reluctant to buy another of the same pump. Any suggestions on substitutes. Thanks.....all suggestions cheerfully accepted.
