Unplug the AMM with engine off and then start the car. If the symptoms are duplicated (you're in limphome mode, no thanks to Bob Dole!) there's the problem.

You might try cleaning the amm connector/contacts very gently and reassembling carefully, maybe a very little OxGard on the contacts, not enough to short them to each other. If that doesn't work you may have to replace the AMM.
