I think there is a vacuum pump in 1974 models, camshaft driven therefore on port side down low.

VW hoses work great, especially fuel, and use the solid clamps as well.

Get a Borg Warner manual, or a Volvo factory one if you can. There was a 140 on E-Bay recently, the transmissio section is the same.
