REMOVAL OF STEERING COLUMN 700 1988

I have a 740 STA WGN GLE. What is the procedure to remove a 740 steering column? Steps in Chilton's are not 100% accurate. Upper bearing housing with ignition switch housing must be separated to pass through dash. HOW? Thanks. Don
