Ultimate Classic Volvo? ALL ANY

I'm looking to by a vintage volvo to drive daily. I have a small family so I want the car to be safe. I'm thinking of either a P1800 or older 240/140. Does anyone have any advise on what year model is really special to own and restore? Is the P1800 big enough to have a child-seat installed? Does it have a back seat? What year 240/140 is best? I don't care about being up-to-date as far as technology (I own an 850 as my primary family car), but I want to buy a classic Volvo that's safe enough to take the family out in on a weekend trip. Any advise is appreciated.
