You can use an ohmmeter to check for continuity between the IAC contacts. Bentley (or was it Haynes) gives the appropriate readings, but you can initially look for no open's btween any of the contacts.

some IAS's have two wires, some three. Check the Boach p/n on yours and head for the junkyard. Another IAC with the same numbers will swap. Beginning in 1988 240 the IAC was a lot easier to remove, before that it was a major PITA.
