I've been under the impression that the 850 replaced the 740 in North America. Remember, the 940 was sold here starting in 1991(I think more as a replacement for the 760 than anything else;) the 740 was sold until 1992. The 850 came along in 1993. So, from a marketing standpoint at least, the 850 indeed replaced the 740.
