Volvo has pre-formed hoses that solve that kinking problem. But they cost money (I think around $12 each the last time I bought them). Anyway, you've got heat and that's the important part. If the PO would have been nice enough to short circuit the system FORWARD of the firewall, you wouldn't have pulled so much hair out.
