Thank you Don Foster and Don Willson. It's exciting to hear a Volvo fire up and run after wrestling it in the garage for the last 10 days with no sparks. For all of you brickboarders that are electrically challenged like me, I thought you might be interested in how I got my '87 760 to start:
The culprit was the Power Stage (a little 2"x3" plastic piece with 6 pins that bolts to the driver's side fender near the battery.) When I went to a local independent imported parts store to price a rebuilt distributor vs. a Hall sensor, I got this final clue. He would have to order the distributor and the Hall sensor; but, he said he sold alot of the ignition control units for Volvos and he had them in stock. I first thought he meant the control unit under the dash I had already switched. He showed me one and I recognized it as the Power Stage. I switched it off another one of my Volvos and I'm up and running again. Maybe after 10 days of intimanacy with my ignition system hopefully I can help somebody on the board.
Again; Thanks to the Dons for your helpful suggestions.
