Any water which goes into the ventilation air intake grille at the base of the windscreen drains into the rocker panels (the chassis members which are visible under the bottom of the doors) then out through drain holes in these panels. Cosequently they are prone to rust, and these are important structural parts of the vehicle. If the sills have been re-painted or have been given an anti-paint-chip coating, be suspicious.
