The Volvo engine you have may not have the same engine control computer (ECU) or main computer that's used in the in-car installation. In the car, no spark means that the fuel pumps aren't powered. Have you got fuel to the engine? Is it fuel-injected? The 1985 B230F used LH 2.2 engine management system.
