Many thanks - however, I am in the UK! (Offer much appreciated though). Wonder if it still has a hall sensor instead of RPM sensor on March 89 740 turbo. Had a new distributor cap 14K miles ago.

I assume the knock sensor is irrelevant to the current problem of apparent overheating and occasional cutting out?

Brilliant local mechanic but not keen on electrics and main dealer inclined to replace the lot rather than isolate the real problem. All advice here is welcome.
