Several years ago, when creating an engine wiring harness on a decrepit Ford Ranger (aren't they all?) I threw out my electrical soldering iron and replaced it with a butane powered model by Weller called the PortaSol.

1] no need to drag an extension cord into the driveway.

2] can be used to shrink heat-shrink tubing.

3] up to temp. in a jiffy.

All this for about $20. One of the best items in my toolbox.
