Re: Stereo 240-260 80

Any basic DIN radio will fit an 85 upper dash position. Just remember that the "teeny" buttons can be a bitch to operate while driving.

For about $100 you should be able to get a good AM/FM/Cassette unit and the mounting gear. Crutchfield is ok, a bit high priced, but they do have a no questions asked 30 day policy- get the harness adapter and pre wire the ass end of the new unit so you don't have to butcher the existing wiring. Remeber the memory wire goes to fuse #1 or the bck of the clock on the speedo cluster.

Consider a removeable faceplate, makes 'em think twice as the replacement costs as much as the head unit, for a consumer-non shop owner.

Kenwood ain't bad, Sony is OK, Pioneer screams "STEAL ME" and the flip over faceplate that displays a plastic panel instead of a display doesn't fool anyone-even a crackhead!

When removng the old one, pop off the upper guage knockout and there a two screws tomremove and then opn the glove box and remove all the holddown screws and slide it out. Behind the radio is a bar that goest to the wiper transverse arm-DO NOT REMOVE IT!!! Reach behind the radio with a stubby phillips screwdriver and loosen the bolt that attches the bar to the radio-, push up on the bar and the radio will slip free. After you get the new unit installed to the new faceplate, remove the bolt from the back of the old radio and screw it into the rear of the new one-the holes are same size/same place-slide the unit in and fit the bar to the bolt and tighten with Mr. Stubby...the bar has two purposes

1-stops the radio from bouncing and cracking the faceplate and makes the tape deck not go "Woo-Woo" except during chumbawumba and Spice Ho's music...

2-feble Swedish attempt at anti-theft, I guess no one in Sweden has a desire to destroy anyones dash...."OK, Lars We cannot get it out so lets go for the Blaupunkt in that Audi over there...we may be degenerate Euro-crackheads but we must remember that in this Socialust society we must respect the rights of the car owner to have his/her radio stolen in a professional and clean manner!" "Ya, Sven- besides the Audi has UK plates and we don't feel bad about ripping off an Englander!"

If you are offended...too bad!
