144 Pollutes! 140-160 1970

You guys have really helped me out here in the past few weeks with fixing up my 144. I found that the vaccum advance line had fallen off the carb which was causing my pinging and performace problems, but one problem still remains. This car pollutes!

I know what oil burning is like and this isn't oil burning. There's just a terrible smell (almost like the smell of a diesel) coming out of the exhaust while I'm driving. I don't really see much smoke (and if I do, like when a small puff comes out when I start it up, it looks white), but the smell is enough to choke you.

Here is what has been done to the car so far:

Oil change (10w-30) & filter, new cap & rotor, new plugs, new wires, carbs adjusted (using the Haynes manual, the stromberg carbs were recently rebuilt by the previous owner), new flame trap, new air filter.

Unless I missed something, the only things left to do is adjust the points (they look like new), adjust the valves & check the timing. I know the timing could be off, but due to the fact that the car will ping on low octane gas, but not much on premium tells me it's probably close to where it's supposed to be. I am going to check it though. Can it be anything else? Could the motor just be really dirty/clogged up inside? Maybe the carbs are bad? Is this a result of using unleaded gas? Will adding lead help or having the value seals & seats replaced to accept unleaded fuel? The engine has 90K original miles and looks like it's never been apart.
