I'd change the oil beforehand, if possible. I would imagine that the upper part of the engine is very dry and some new oil, poured into the top of the engine would lubricate it all quicker when fired up after sitting for so long. You could also take the valve cover off and lubricate everything you can with motor oil first.

6 months is really not that bad though. I've let my VW bug sit for longer between starts. Heck, I haven't driven the thing since I bought my 144s...:-)
