The number on the sidewall is the MAXIMUM ALLOWABLE pressure. NOT the recommended operating pressure.

If you fill your tire (cold) to 44psi and then drive it, the air inside will heat up causing expansion. Then the tire is over the maximum allowable pressure.

Somewhere around 30-32 psi is the proper pressure for a Volvo.
