Yeah, they work fine enough. More than adequate for the home mechanic ... won't stand up to the rigors of a professional (dad's friend broke down and bought a Snap-on, giving up on having to replace 'em every month).
HF stuff varies ... most of their wrenches and sockets are decent, especially for the price. About 1/2 of the pliers and ratchets will fail at some point. Their breaker bars do exactly that - they break; buy the $12 torque wrench for that purpose instead.
Why I deal with their crap ... well, I'm cheap, but since they're local and offer a lifetime warranty, it's still alright. Hell, I admit to "testing" some of their products sometimes at the junkyard.
I never tried them, but everyone I know who's bought one of their electric tools say that you get what you pay for.
