Different shift linkages? 700 1986

Hi all,

I just swapped 5 speed transmissions in my '86 740T. After fighting with bleeding the clutch it finally works, but I've noticed a difference from before. The shifter is farther forward now than it was before. Third gear is practically in the dash. Since everything went back together nice and snug, does anyone have ideas as to what moved the shifter forward by an inch?
