I've got an 86 745 gle n/a with 198,500 miles with a hand crank sunroof. I got a sunroof motor and a switch for my car off of ebay. Now, I ask y'all at the board for a little help installing it. I've removed the headliner to replace it, so I know some about the way the sunroof works, and how the hand crank goes on. I've also got the hayne's manual which gives me a good idea. It shows 2 screws and 1 nut holding up the motor... Anyone have these and willing to give them up? Is it ok if I just use some generic screws? Also, is the motor 12 volts? Can I run it directly off of the battery? Or, where should I get the power for it from? Connect it to the radio power wire? Also, I'm getting the switch that goes with it for by my fog lamp switch, how do the wires run from it to the motor? I think the wires have special shaped connectors at each end... Is this expensive from the dealer? Or, I could just solder wires together.
Also, when I replaced the transmission, I also did the rear main seal and the throwout bearing. I keep hearing recommendations to other people to do the pilot bearing. Now, that's got me worried. If the car hasn't ever had it replaced, when can it likely fail? How will I know, like, does it make an annoying noise? I'm sure it would have been easy enough while I was in there to do. In fact, I thought the circlip you take off was messed up because of the way it is bent at one end. Now I know better.
Wow, lots of questions,
Thanks board,
Nathan
