The Stalling Enigma 200 1985

Greetings and salutations Brickheads.

In the ever lasting saga that is my 1985 240 Dl's life...a new episode of quandaries has reared its lovely head.

In past episodes, the fuel pump relay had gone sour, the wire between the relay and the inline pump decided to retire, and it seemed that the injector pump went on hiatus. all those problems have been rectified, with a new and improved relay...(vintage 1987), a wire from the fuse box to the inline fuel pump, and a new battery cable (wasn't getting enough juice to trip the relay)

Now, in typical dramatic style the car has decided to challenge my patience and your wits with a stalling problem. When the car is running, idling actually... moving slightly, or stopped... the engine stalls, granted, it gives me a bit of warning, and if i stomp on the accelerator, (and there isn't a car in front of me) it will keep running. After my repairs I noticed that the car is a bit sluggish to respond to my requests for more speed.

Now, I am no mechanic by any means, I am just a simple man who lives WAY to far from a decent volvo surgeon... but I think I may be flooding the engine...when i hooked that in line pump up to the fuse box, and disconnected some fuel line in the engine, and let 'er rip, a WHOLE lot of fuel came out... so maybe that pump is getting too much power? I suppose i could wire that pump from the relay ( i believe it to be 87/2?)

speaking of fuel, i've also noticed that my fuel guage has become far less accurate, with much more fluctuation that before...

any thoughts, comments, ideas...?

Thank you

Rich Nell
