I was a bit diaapointed when I got my first 740, not much space for gauges.
I like gauges, and the 240 has space for lots of them, nice big round ones too.
My 745 came with an optional outside temp gauge. I found a volt gauge at the junky (turbos came with them). But lo my surprise when i took out the dash and discovered the volt gauge would only mount in the upper left spot, as would the outside temp gauge wish now occupied the spot.
I have to admit being annoyed, how could some one design something with so little interchange ability? I desperately tried to modify the volt gauge by using parts from the Turbo gauge (which mounts in the upper right position) but there were virtually no interchange able parts.
Interestingly the cluster is shallower on the upper right end than the left. I can see no reason for this in the dash, there is nothing back there to interfere with it.
So in the end, I cut up the Outside temp gauge housing to fit into the upper right spot, and used a cut up blank panel to hold it in place,
It looks real bad from the back, but just fine from in front.
I guess I can forget about those other cool gauges my 245 had, no room for oil temp, oil press, vacuum.........
