Electrical problems 900 1992

Had to replace the rear offside lens unit on 940 GLE Estate due to broken lens. Used an aftermarket unit ( cheaper! ) and am now left with following problems. No day light, when reverse selected rear fog dash light warning light comes on, reverse lights ok, rear fog light works ok. brake lights ok. After new unit fitted a sparking sound emitted from location of fuses (fuses ok) Bulb warning light on all the time. I think a relay, possibly bulb warning light relay has fried but I would be grateful for any advice.

Thank you in anticipation. Only got the car 14 months ago to transport our dogs but am hooked on the damn thing, drive it all the time! Other car is BMW 3 series Touring which I dont like as much by far.
