Oil sucker

You don't say how many miles it has. I would first check the flame trap. A clogged one can cause oil usage. Mine uses oil at about 600 miles to the quart. I did have an oil leak 3 years ago at the head gasket that did not show any leaks in the drive way, did find some oil sprayed out at the rear of the car on the back bumper though. I have blow-by and valve leakage confirmed by a compression and leak down test. Is your car used for short trips? Does it get fully warmed up? And yes any serious engine work is big bucks, big big bucks.
