Oval speakers in rear deck, any modifications needed?

When installing the oval speakers (6by9 I think) in the rear deck of a 244, is there any cutting or mod's necessary? I saw something posted recently about having to do some cutting or trimming back of the sheet metal under the rear deck carpet.
