squeelling belts 700 1990

C: A tip for you, thanks to other (and MANY!) previous posts: go to 'www.thepartsbin.com' and click in your car's year/model, etc., info, then surf thru the sections until you get to 'the belts:' they list the size (in mm.) of the belts that you need. Even if you don't order from them, at least you KNOW what size belt(s) to get. I mention this because several years I broke a belt, happily right across the street from a small auto-parts store, brought in the broken one, got a replacement, installed it with much effort, drove home. Then I just happened to glance at the cardboard sleeve that the belt came in, and saw that it was for a different size of belt, so I checked the new belt, and it had different numbers: NOT the size that I needed (because I did not double-check, which IS my responsibility) Hmmm. No wonder it was difficult to install that new belt! Either the salesman substituted the wrong belt into the right sleeve, or it was done by accident. I waited until the next day, called a nearby dealer (yes, they DO come in handy when needed), and slowly drove over, got the CORRECT belt, installed it in a nearby parking lot, no trouble since properly installed. Also, if you have any doubts as to when the other belts were installed, replace them all! This is also a good time to check all of your clamps (I gar-on-tee that you'll find at least one loose---maybe even missing--clamp). After replacing them and driving for a while (100 miles), check 'em again, 'just to be sure.' Good luck, amigo.--PD.
