another OD problem 200 1983

Here are the 2 problems/questions:

1) my recently re-soldered OD is getting stuck in the "OD off" position....should I re-solder it & see how that works? If not, what is Plan B?

2) here's an odd one: in my owner's manual, when OD is described, the only time the manual says to NOT engage OD is when one is a) passing a vehicle, or b) climbing a mountainous region....

BUT, in my Haynes guide, (the one for the 200 series from '74 - '90) on p. 122 it says "do not reverse when OD is engaged as this will cause considerable damage".....that's a new one to me ... so am I taking the Haynes info out of context (as the Haynes info is referring to troubleshooting) OR should one always dis-engage the OD before going into reverse as a matter of habit? ancy clarification on both these questions is greatly appreciated...

thanks - susan.....
