Hey Chip,
Have you thought of the ignition switch? It may be baaaaad. By now, (15 years) it should be getting close.... Basically, start the car, then while idling, jiggle the key left to right in the "dip" of where the key sits in the "ON" position, you may find that certain items will turn on and off as you do this, this would indicate a baaaad switch, and may also be a reason for the slow starting sometimes....
