Window Tinting

Typically, those tints also turn purple.

I'd wager it's moreso the material. But then, places that use that kinda crap don't hire better talent either. It's all about cost.

Personally, I'd avoid the "$69" special places. You are going to get what you pay for.

Since I do dread spending more than how much my '74 costed, I'm going the DIY route on my '91. The larger, flat windows of the wagon is easier than a curved rear window of a sedan.
