I don't know what wire you might be referring to but I believe the speedometer in your car is mechanical rather than electrical. The speedometer cable is driven by a gear set in the transmission and registers this on the speedometer. First thing to do is check to see if the cable is broken. Take it loose at the transmission and also at the speedometer. Turn the cable by hand and see if the other ends revolves. If not the cable is broken and will need to be replaced.
