If it really clicks, it could be a bad switch. The switch has three tabs, as I recall. Be sure you're measuring the right ones. OTOH, the switch could also be out of adjustment -- that was the case when I bought my '86. An incompetent moron mechanic had compensated for a bad CIS motor and varnished throttle body by continually adjusting the mechanical stop (which is a no-no). Among other things, this resulted in a switch that didn't "click."
Your stalling symptom could be a sticky, gummy, varnished, or worn out CIS motor (aka "idle air valve").
