Update: electronic ignition troubles 140-160 1972

I bought one of these units a few weeks ago and it wouldn't fit my distributor. There are 2 types of distributor, one having points a mirror image of the other but they only make one model for bosch. They were happy to take it back for a full refund.

I bought a Crane XR3000 for only $15 ($7.50US) more but it uses optical triggering and has a "black box". It took much longer to install as it was very fiddly but works great.

I bought a PS60 coil to match and I have noticed a slight drop in fuel consumption and the power is much smoother. I'll get a set of Crane Firewire leads soon to finish it off.

I hooked up my dwell meter to see what it was doing and it ran 80deg at idle and dropped down smoothly to 35deg at 4500rpm so it does adjust dwell to suit rpm. What does the perlux/pertronix system do to dwell?
