a turbo into a n/a?

From experience...one of my first dances with my 84 242 GLT was to eliminate oil blowing (gone seals) turbo and let her breath normally. I simply replaced exhaust manifold and re-routed (kobbed) a intake line between the engine and radiator to the intake. Just keep in mind...NOT TURBO....but my 242 ran just as well as a regular Volvo. Havimg a 4+OD, I just kept the RPMs toward the top on all shifts. My biggest problem was matching the na exhaust to the larger turbo exhaust.....local parts store had up/down size connectors. Forget which sizes I used. Was never able to have a perfect fit though.
When $$ were available I picked up a rebuild kit from 'Turbo City'...about $100.
Not difficult...just keep it clean, clean.clean.
Hope this helps,
Al
