If you remove it from the car, you can do what I did:
Pull the plug from the bottom, spray the inside as best you can with degreaser, let it sit for 10 minutes or so, and then flush it out completly with a garden hose. Weather permitting, let it dry in the sun for an hour or so... (I might have blown it with an air hose, I forget...)
Figure whatever tiny amount of water you leave in there is only going to enter your engine as vapor, which will do only good as a cheap decarbonizer...
