If they are black but dry (as opposed to oily) your mixture is
too rich. It probably will slow down when you put it in drive,
but shouldn't be drastic.
I strongly recommend the green Volvo manual for your year.
It has VERY good instructions for repair of the FI system.
One thing to check is fuel system pressure. Should be about
28-30 psi. If it is much different from this, especially higher,
that could be a lot of your problem.
