Rick - Thanks for the reply. I'd like to add a little more detail about the symptoms just to see if this was the problem you were having...
Engine turns right over - vroom - no problem - but then wants to stall for about 10 seconds thereafter. Keeping the RPM's up by stepping on the gas for about 10 seconds after cranking will prevent this. Here's the odd thing, though... if the engine does stall during that 10 seconds after cranking, it will not start right up again - I'd need to crank the starter for 30 seconds or so continuously while stepping on the gas to get it to turn over. Also, if the car stalls and I just leave it, I can walk away for an hour, come back and it s-t-i-l-l won't start!
I thought for sure, as you did, that this had something to do with fuel draining back into the fuel tank while left overnight (bad check valve?), but one morning before trying to start I ran the fuel pump for about 30 seconds by jumpering the relay connector, and the same thing occirred.
Would a bad engine speed sensor allow the engine to start easily the first time, but not on subsequent attepmts?
