You guys aren't going to believe this one .... I found the problem !!!! The weather was nice and warm today so I started the old girl up and crawled under the hood .... I noticed a lot of rattling coming from the area of the Alternator ... at first thinking that the bearings had gone bad ... I was just leaning over the thing cursing under my breath when low and behold I noticed that the rear of the alternator casing was moving around in relation to the front half .... closer inspection revealed that somehow almost all the 5/16" headed bolts that hold the alternator case together had ALL worked loose ... so I tightened them up ... stopped the rattle and guess what ... the warning light goes out !!!!! This has got to be one of the weirdest I have ever seen .. still think I am going to pick up a longer adjusting arm though as I am right to the end of this one and with the alternator pushed all the way in it is still difficult to get the belt on and off .. but the stocker will do until I run across the one I am looking for ... think I have seen one around somewhere with a curve towards the outer end .... on a Chevy small block I think ....
