'oil designed for your car' is my silly way of saying use the SAE viscosity grade and API rating recommended by Volvo for your car.

Nothing wrong with using the best oil for your circumstances, the best base stock and best additive package......which, in a car that is in physically/mechanically good shape, even with high miles, is true synthetic oil.
