ANY harm using injectors without protective caps? 700 1987

I have looked at them in the past also and unless they hold the seal, the only reason for them seems to be to keep the metal tip frow fowling. Can't imagine it would make any difference. They are not that hard to change out, so maybe you could try them and let us know if your hot problem goes away.
