Reverse lights wont work 200 1984

For a long time my reverse lights have not worked on my 84 240 DL. They have only been a minor annoyance until 2 days ago when I recieved a fix it ticket from a very picky/bored cop. They come on whenever I get on the gas hard in reverse. (found that out when going uphill in reverse) Thus I know it is not a fuse or the bulbs themselves. No mechanic I have gone to has a clue what is wrong. Not that they really took much time to check it out. Anyway, I was hoping that someone out there might have had the same problem and/or knows what might be wrong. Thanx. -Logan Price, CA
