122S Electrical Gremlins

Hi All ....

I have been chasing an electrical GREMLIN around the lighting system of my 122. So far I have managed to eliminate the headlight circuit as the problem still happens when running only the parking lights. There is a severe draw which dims the headlights and eventually will flatten the battery as happened on the way to London, Ont last summer west of Toronto on the 401 .... The battery got so flat that there wasn't enough power to keep the engine running, and at 70+ MPH she just plain shut down. With the lights on, the directional signals slow to a crawl .... when you turn off the lights the blinker immediately speeds up... as the short has disappeared.... I have opened and cleaned the plug where the main harness connects to the front light harness and moved the wires around where they pass through the radiator bulkhead. First test after that revealed nice bright headlights and a busy blinker when asked .... but it didn't last ... the GREMLIN was just on holiday I guess .... I have just come back in out of the cold after having examined the front wiring harness again and recleaning the plug between harness and front lights .... I have NOT as yet checked the wires leading to the rear of the car as I seemed to have affected the problem for the better when I moved things around in the front of the car. I have checked for any light being dimmer than another and nothing is obvious that way either ... however .. there is s definate difference in the speed of the blinker from one side to the other ... OK I'm all ears .... any suggestions ???

Old Volvos never die .... they just become "VERY COOL".
