Water flow

B18/B20 engines have a water pipe that exits the bottom of the water pump, goes along the right side of the engine block under the intake/exhaust manifold and connects to a rubber hose and then to the heater. Which way does the water flow in this tube? I assume that the water is pumped (pushed) from the water pump toward the heater but the reverse could be true I suppose. At any rate I would like to know for sure without taking the hoses off my car.
