That guy is a boob. It's a structural part of the car, but if that specific part is holding the car together, your car has severe structural issues elsewhere. You can cut parts out of the parcel shelf support if necessary, although if there's room for some round speakers instead, you could do that too. I know they're not 6x9s, but they do reflect well from the rear window.
