Freeze 12 is a great replacement (as are the other R12 replacements out there).
The only problems being:
It's a mixture of sorts and it requires you to drain the entire system and refill if you've got a leak. This is to maintain the proper balance of whatever's in it.
It requires different fittings than R12 or R134a (so you can't accidentally interchange the stuff).
Given the above, many shops won't touch the stuff or a system with the stuff in there. R134a may be a hassle, but it's got a definate convenience factor. Which is better? Depends on how much work you're willing to do yourself I suppose.
